Cebu Pacific backs PHL government's new contact tracing app

Cebu Pacific has expressed its support for the Philippine government's contact tracing efforts with the launch of "Traze". This is a contact tracing app which uses a QR code aimed to automate contact tracing efforts.

It will be mandated that all passengers transiting through airports would need to download and use the Traze app. This will take effect on November 28.

Cebu Pacific's Vice-President for marketing and customer experience said, "We commend the government for launching this contact tracing app. We believe having a single contact tracing app for the industry will not only make the track and trace process more effective and efficient, it is also one of the critical steps in rebuilding trust and confidence in travel.

"We are positive that with this in place, coupled with the multi-layered approach airlines strictly implement, passengers will feel more confident in air travel. We continue to collaborate with our partners in the industry to make sure we all work together in ensuring a safe journey for the riding public, so everyone may travel with peace of mind."

How the Traze app works

According to Cebu Pacific, Traze allows passengers to conveniently register an account on their mobile devices, and scan QR codes at designated areas at the airport. Once someone with COVID-19 is identified, an in-app notification will be sent to persons this passenger may have had contact with. Individuals who may have been exposed are advised to immediately isolate themselves and practice other sanitation precautionary measures.

The Traze app is currently being tested in major airports around the Philippines which include Manila, Cebu, Clark, and Davao.

Passengers however who do not have mobile phones or gadgets have an option. They may approach the airport's Malasakit Helpdesk where they will be assisted in acquiring a QR code. For those who are "technologically challenged", they may also ask a family member to register them to the Traze app.
