Sriwijaya Air SJ182 disappears from radar shortly after take-off from Jakarta

 A Boeing 737-500 belonging to Sriwijaya Air has disappeared from radar shortly after take-off from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The flight was headed for Pontianak when it disappeared 5 minutes after it took-off.

According to a report from Airlive.net, there are a total of 56 passengers, 4 cabin crew, and 2 flight deck crew on board the aircraft.Flight SJ182 was scheduled to takeoff at 1:40pm local time. The Boeing 737-500 took off at 2:06pm local time.

According to reports, the aircraft suffered a sudden loss of altitude over Jakarta Bay, with a drop from 10,900ft all the way to 7,650ft.

Indonesia’s transport ministry said that a search and rescue investigation is under way. Debris has been found by the rescue team but it is still not yet confirmed if this belongs to the missing aircraft, as of this writing.
