Tigerair Taiwan is planning to add a Taiwan to Davao and vice-versa route to its network within the year or early 2020. This comes after Garuda Indonesia launched its Manodo to Davao flights flights just last month. The new planned route was revealed by Department of Tourism Davao Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, saying the new route will boost trade, tourism, and investments.
She said that an executive from Tigerair Taiwan including 12 Taiwanese travel agents visited the Davao region last July.
During the tourism agency's presentation of accomplishments and updates last October 7, Rabat-Tan said, "We tour(ed) them around the city and region. The highlight of our tour was our beach destinations especially in Samal, Davao del Norte. They appreciate more about the people’s hospitality and the food. The tour has strengthened their intention to set up Davao-Taipei route.”
Tigerair's plan was to first launch chartered flights between Taiwan and Davao but later on decided to make it regular scheduled flights due to the route's viability.
More international carriers are flying directly to Davao. Qatar Airways presently flies from Doha directly to Davao. The airline is looking to increasing frequency. Silk Air has long been flying from Singapore directly to Davao. Cathay Dragon flies from Hong Kong to Davao, while Xiamen Air serves the Davao to Quanzhou route.
