The board of directors of Philippine Airlines (PAL) has confirmed the appointment of Gilbert F. Santa Maria as the flag carrier's new President and Chief Operating Officer. The 15-man PAL board, in its regular meeting at the Century Park Hotel - Manila last Monday (July 29, 2019) unanimously approved Santa Maria, a handpicked nominee of PAL Chairman and CEO Dr. Lucio C. Tan.
PAL Chairman Dr. Lucio C. Tan is serving as interim president of the flag carrier.
He decided to assume the company's top post pending approval by the board of directors of the candidate/s for president of the flag carrier. PAL Executive Vice President / Treasurer and Chief Administrative Officer Vivienne K. Tan is assisting him in the airline's day to day operations.
A recent report and statement from Centre for Aviation (CAPA) said that Philippine Airlines is shelving its US expansion and dropping its London route. On the contrary, Philippine Airlines is not shelving its US expansion nor is it dropping its London flights, in a statement released by PAL corporate communications today.
Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific's on-time performance (OTP) significantly improved 2 weeks after signing a Pledge of Commitment to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Aviation and Airports Sector, based on a report from the Philippine transportation agency. Philippine Airlines's very first brand new Airbus A321NEO ACF took its first commercial flight today from Manila to Davao and back early this morning. The aircraft with registry RP-C9937 took off for Davao from Manila as PR1809 at 3:45am and arrived back at 7:50am, 30 minutes before scheduled arrival. ACF stands for Airbus Cabin Flex wherein the aircraft can accommodate more passengers compared to the first six A321NEO delivered to Philippine Airlines.
