Cebu Pacific last August 9 opened three new flights from Clark International Airport (CRK) in Angeles, Pampanga. The budget airline launched flights to Bacolod, Iloilo, and Narita, Japan from the former American airbase. Flights from Narita will run four times a week on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, and Sundays. Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade congratulated Cebu Pacific for the new direct flights.
Conglomerate San Miguel Corp released the proposed design of the New Manila International Airport to be located at a 2,500 hectare area at Bulakan, Bulacan. A British Airways flight from London to Spain had to commence emergency evacuation after the cabin was filled with smoke. Flight BA422, utilizing an Airbus A321-200 aircraft, was travelling from Heathrow to Valencia on Monday afternoon when the incident happened. All 175 passengers and 8 crew members evacuated safely. British Airways confirmed a "technical issue" as the cause.
Cebu Pacific took delivery of its first dedicated cargo aircraft, an ATR 72-500F. The aircraft was a passenger version ATR 72-500 also used by Cebu Pacific before being converted into a cargo aircraft. This is the first of two dedicated cargo ATRs. The two ATR 72s were converted into cargo aircraft by IPR Conversions. Cebu Pacific's subsidiary CebGo will be operating the aircraft.

Former PLDT executive Ricardo "Ricky" Isla was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Philippines Air Asia, Inc. In a statement from PAA yesterday, Ricky Isla will replace Capt. Dexter Comendador who was appointed as the airline's Chief Operating Officer. Ricky Isla was previously the head for business and product development, marketing and sales of PLDT Global Inc.
It looks like the A380 will soon be making its final bow for another airline. Air France had announced that it is retiring its Airbus A380 fleet by 2022 in a media statement. The airline cited that a competitive operating environment, high fuel costs, high CO2 emissions, increasing maintenance costs, and the need for cabin refurbishments as the reason for the said decision.
