Airbus A380s are indeed a rare sight in the Philippines. In fact, only one airline has previously operated a single A380 flight to Manila, and that's Emirates. Contrary to what others think that Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) runway is too short and too small to accommodate the Airbus superjumbo, NAIA's RW06/24 has in fact received quite a number of A380s already.
Except for that single Emirates flight, all other A380 flights to and from Manila were not commercial ones, instead, they were in Lufthansa Technik Philippines for repairs and maintenance.
Although our runway can accommodate the superjumbo, the giant aircraft still has special needs due to its large wingspan. They say aircraft movement would have to stop to avoid any wingtip collision. Hence, no airline were able to operate regular scheduled commercial A380 flights to Manila.
These are the A380s that have actually landed in Manila already:
Emirates - single commercial flight and inaugural transfer from NAIA terminal 1 to 3.
Have you spotted any of these A380s? You will usually see them at the Lufthansa Technik Philippines hangar. If you want to see them landing or take-off, that would quite be hard as they do arrive and leave anytime within the day. If you know someone from LTP, then maybe you could ask that person about the schedule of the A380s.
