There was a website that quite came up with some misleading news, which said that airport personel stopped working because it was raining. This is actually quite a misleading news and we are here to correct that. During that heavy downpour, lightning was present, hence, operations had to stop. It is standard operating procedure that all airport ground operations stop during a LIGHTNING RED ALERT.
This one happens when the presence of lightning is within 9km radius of the airport which may pose great danger to the personnel working there.
The lightning activity system (LAS) was installed by PAGASA in order for the airport authority to raise the alert level. During a RED alert level, these are what happens:
Always remember that safety comes first. Should we experience flight delays during thunderstorms, please do not forget that lives are at stake. Sometimes, our "selfish" mentality of demanding to always be on time despite the circumstance may cause someone else's life, perhaps, a bread winner of his or her family.
