AirAsia took delivery of its very first Airbus A321neo last Wednesday. Present were about 30 media people and AirAsia staff at the delivery ceremony at Hamburg, Germany. This is the first of 353 Airbus A321neo which the airline ordered. The A321neo will start flying from its Kuala Lumpur hub to cities in Asia including destinations like Kucking and Kota Kinabalu.
With the start of the delivery of the A321neo, AirAsia looks forward to offering higher capacity flights to address a stronger demand in its network. The aircraft will allow the airline to open new routes with the highest levels of efficiency.
During the handover ceremony, AirAsia Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Veranito Yosephine said, "We could not be more thrilled that it will be the new backbone of our operations across the AirAsia Group. With the 25% increase capacity and 10% reduction in cost per seat, the A321neo will enable us to maintain low fares so 'Everyone Can Fly!'"
"This new generation aircraft delivers significant capacity and cost benefits which we can pass on to our guests in the form of great value fares and it also unlocks exciting network expansion opportunities allowing us to fly the aircraft for an additional one and a half hours longer. This will enable us to grow and be the largest low-cost carrier in Asia," she continued.
During the recent Paris Air Show, AirAsia converted its 253 orders of A320neos to the larger A321neo.
The A321neo offers 50 more seats than the A320neo plus an additional 40% more cargo space. AirAsia's A321neo will be configured with 236 seats.
The A321neo also delivers 20% fuel savings as compared to the A321ceo (Current Engine Option). The AirAsia's A321neo is powered by CFM LEAP-1A32 turbofan engines.
