It looks like the A380 will soon be making its final bow for another airline. Air France had announced that it is retiring its Airbus A380 fleet by 2022 in a media statement. The airline cited that a competitive operating environment, high fuel costs, high CO2 emissions, increasing maintenance costs, and the need for cabin refurbishments as the reason for the said decision.
The Philippines's largest budget carrier Cebu Pacific looks to fly its 300 millionth passenger by 2022 as it increases capacity with the addition of new aircraft and as it invests of more digital tools to drive in demand. Cebu Pacific Vice President for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog says that the 300 millionth passenger target can be reached four times faster than its 150 millionth passenger in 1996.

The board of directors of Philippine Airlines (PAL) has confirmed the appointment of Gilbert F. Santa Maria as the flag carrier's new President and Chief Operating Officer. The 15-man PAL board, in its regular meeting at the Century Park Hotel - Manila last Monday (July 29, 2019) unanimously approved Santa Maria, a handpicked nominee of PAL Chairman and CEO Dr. Lucio C. Tan.
Southwest Airlines is pulling out its operations at Neward Liberty International Airport due to losses brought by the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max. After the two deadly crashes of Lion Air and Ethiopian Air involving the 737 Max aircraft, the aircraft has been grounded globally. This is now taking a huge toll on airlines operating them, with some cancelling orders of the Max.
It was a band-aid solution to compete against the Airbus A320NEO aircraft. Instead of creating a new aircraft from a clean sheet of paper, they decided to re-engine the Boeing 737, an aircraft designed in the 1960s. Now, Boeing has hinted that it may halt the production of its most popular aircraft, the 737MAX following two fatal accidents that resulted to its global grounding.
Philippines Air Asia inked a deal with Omni Aviation to train aspiring pilots for free. The deal provides up to two years of leadership and technical training to aspiring pilots whether already employed with Air Asia or simply anyone else who aspire to be a pilot. This cadet pilot program of Air Asia was formally launched last Wednesday.
A website recognized the Philippines's main gateway Ninoy Aquino3 International Airport (NAIA) as 44th World's Best Airport for Business Travellers as released in their website. Based on the website Globehunters.com, NAIA earned three out of five stars and got 63.9% in terms of on-time Arrival performance.
Two Southwest aircraft struck each other during pushback at Nashville International Airport last Saturday night, the airline has confirmed. The winglet of one aircraft came into contact with the other plane on the tarmac of the airport. There were no injuries reported though both aircraft were pulled back to their respective gates and were later on taken out of service for maintenance evaluation.
Cebu Pacific is suspending its Manila to Guam route beginning December 7, 2019 due to the route not being as viable to maintain. Guam is the only United States route of the budget carrier. Due to the limited slots, Cebu Pacific would rather concentrate on using the limited slots and aircraft for routes with higher passenger demand. After the pullout, only Philippine Airlines and United Airlines will be servicing the Manila to Guam route.
