The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has completed 120 airport projects from 2016 onwards. In a statement, the DOTr said that the completion of these airport projects are various initiatives of the DOTr in the aviation sector to deliver its commitment in improving mobility and connectivity across the nation.
At the same time, 6 airports are ongoing improvements and rehabilitation.
Completed projects include the Bohol-Panglao International Airport which began construction in 2015 was finally inaugurated in 2018. The Mactan-Cebu International Airport terminal 2 which was delayed for 11 months in 2016 was inaugurated in 2017 and is now fully operational.
Recently, the Sangley Airport in Cavite which began its 24/7 construction to help address the congestion problems of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) had its inauguration just last February 15.
Also in its statement, the DOTr said that other key airport project are the Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM). The system is fully operational, bringing the erstwhile total of 3 radars to currently 13 and ensuring 100% coverage of Philippine airspace for aviation safety. This project had been delayed for 10 years.
