The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is keen on pressing for the upgrade of regional airports around the Philippines even without the participation of the private sector. These are airports which received unsolicited proposals from private corporations. Should they back-out, the government will be taking over the upgrading of these airports.
DOTr undersecretary for aviation Manuel Tamayo said that they will push through with the upgrades whether with the support of the private sector or not.
Aboitiz's InfraCapital Inc's to upgrade, operate, and maintain the Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Chelsea Logistics Holdings Corp.'s proposals have passed the DOTr and have been endorsed to NEDA. This means that the revise offers and proposals from these companies are in compliant with the government's requirement to pattern the concession terms with that of the Clark International Airport.
