The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) recently released pictures of a newly improved Laguindingan International Airport (CGY). The improvements are being done to further serve the growing number of passengers travelling to Cagayan De Oro and the rest of Northern Mindanao. CGY is the second busiest airport in Mindanao after Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City (DVO).
According to a statement by CAAP, CGY has cetered to 2,079,684 passengers in 2018, a 14% increase from 1,814,664 passengers in 2017. CAAP, being the airport's operator, sees the increase in passenger movement as a welcome development.
To name a few of the improvements done are the installation of airconditioning units at the passenger air bridges and repair of the airside visual signage. CAAP continues to undertake initiatives that will bring improvements and upgrades to CGY.
The airport opened in June 15, 2013and replaced Lumbia Airport in Cagayan De Oro. Lumbia now serves as a military air base for the Philippine Air Force.
CGY is classified as a Principal Domestic Airport Class 1 by CAAP.
