A Jetstar aircraft overan a portion of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) runway early this morning causing the closure of runway 13/31. This is the runway across NAIA terminal 3 and perpendicular to terminal 4. The main runway 06/24, remains to be opened but expect details. Jetstar Japan flight GK40 utilizing and Airbus A320-232 was bound for Narita in Tokyo Japan when the incident happened at about 3:40am.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Aircraft Accident Investigation Inquiry Board (AAIB) have been dispatched to the area.
While taxiing to take-off, the aircraft ended up in a grassy portion of runway 13/31. CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said flight GK40 "experienced runway 13/31 excursion upon making 180 degrees turn for departure at time 2:35 a.m. while taxing via taxiway F1."
The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the CAAP AIIB.
