Philippine Airlines (PAL) successfully repatriated 500 Filipino seafarers of the Diamond Princess of the Sea from Haneda to Manila yesterday February 25 via two flights. This was a joint effort between the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), Magsaysay Shipping Lines, local government of Tarlac, PAL, and other service providers.
The first flight, PR8423 utilizing an Airbus A330, departed Haneda at 6:49PM Japan local time and arrived Clark at 10:10pm with 312 passengers. The second flight PR8421 utlizing an Airbus A321 departed Haneda at 8:40PM Japan local time and arrived Clark at 12:17AM carrying 143 passengers.
A team of DOH medical personnel and officers flew to Haneda and travelled to the Port of Yokohama to conduct medical checks on the Filipino seafarers before the repatriation flights.
Thermal scanning were also conducted on the passengers before boarding the aircraft on the said flights.
After arriving in the Clark, the seafarers were all subjected to mandatory medical checks by the BOQ, before undergoing a 14-day quarantine at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
The PAL aircraft utilized for these flights underwent disinfection procedures upon arrival in Manila.
