Philippines AirAsia (PAA) is set to receive two Airbus A321NEOs in 2020 out of the 12 aircraft that will arrive for the AirAsia Group. Out of the 253 A321NEO pending orders, it is also said that 30 will be going to PAA as the airline plans to increase capacity and its fleet. PAA presently operates 24 Airbus A320CEOs. PAA's revenue jumped by 40% or P6.23 billion and was able to trim loses to P367 million.
In a report by Flightglobal, AirAsia Malaysia will not be receiving any of the 12 new A321NEOs in 2020. Instead, three will be delivered to AirAsia Indonesia, seven will go to AirAsia Indonesia, and two will be delivered to PAA.
AirAsia's A321NEOs are powered by CFM International Leap-1A engines which produces 20% lower fuel burn and will be configured with 236 all-economy seats. The aircraft has also been a popular choice among Asian low-cost airlines. In the Philippines alone, Cebu Pacific has a pending order of 28 A321NEOs plus 10 A321XLRs while already operating 4 in its fleet. Philippine Airlines presently has 7 A321NEOs in its fleet with a pending order of 14 more.
